go fly a kite
10:00 AM
we traveled to grayton this weekend and today as i lay on a blanket at the beach and watched a father and daughter fly a kite, i was waaaay impressed with how well they were able to keep it aloft. i've attempted and occasionally succeeded in flying kites before but they never stayed up for long and well, getting them up at all was the real challenge. i started to think as i lay there sleepy as a cat that this kite was a metaphor for life: the soaring, bobbing and weaving, lots of interesting twists and unexpected turns, sometimes nerve wracking dips but still mostly soaring. of course, there was the sporadic merciless nose dive ending with a slam into the ground but with only a small toss back into the breezy beach air, it was soaring again. after much soothing time, watching, thinking, meditating and feeling somehow enlightened, i shared the whole concept with chelsea who listened intently as i spoke and within a second of my final word asked, "ok, well, then who is on the ground steering your whole life?" UGH! no answer to that. way to kill a perfectly fine metaphor. ![]() ![]() ![]() Labels: beach, chelsea, grayton, life, metaphor, philosphical 0 Comments |
