a snippet... 11:50 AM

i am here. the weather is tropical hot with humidity like swimming in a tub.
we are staying at somewhat of a bed and breakfast with a courtyard in the middle of the building. last night the wind was blowing so hard, the trees in the courtyard were swaying and i sat outside our room on velvet colonial furniture and just watched and listened. i mean, don't get me wrong, i had my face planted in my macbook but internet is sketchy so i had moments where there was nothing else to do but sit and watch and listen.

there is food service on the roof but the kitchen is on the first floor so they send up your stuff through a  dumbwaiter. it's like magic. you give the guy your order and then he just stands there kinda smiling and he keeps saying "un momento" and then poof, there it is....

there is also a pool on the roof but silly me forgot to bring a suit. there are outdoor beds, some in the sun, a couple in the shade. lots of plants including fruit trees. the view from the roof is fascinating. its high up and nerve wracking for me for some reason. the buildings are old and so i have this feeling that while i'm looking over the edge, the edge will crumble away and i'll fall.

last night i noticed a sloppy piano classical music coming from somewhere. i thought it was being piped into the room. it was shocking to me that they imposed this on the guests and there was no way to turn it off or down or change it. i mean, it wasn't offensive; it really didn't bother me but, i was just surprised i had no control. while exploring, i noticed on the 3rd floor across the street there is a ballet studio. classes for little girls in blue and pink tights and leotards. so cute. some of the voices that ive been hearing, the yelling, the spanish nothings i thought was coming from the streets yesterday and this morning are actually coming from there. the instructor is just spewing instruction over the loud piano that accompanies these twirling little ballerinas.

i'll have pictures to share but uploading with this connection is next to impossible! soon! it will happen. you will see why living here might be nice.

on another note...
i'm reading a beautiful book that makes me want to travel, see my life differently and love god. or some version of god. not the kind i grew up with. i read for awhile and then hold it and feel it and cry a little. not because i'm sad but because i just feel like crying.

wish you were here!
