me and you and everyone we know

tallahassee is to some, a transitional city as they move through college, government business or through retirement to death. me? i was born and raised here. my mother was born and raised here. my grandfather was born and raised here. my great grandmother came here on a covered wagon. i am related to almost everyone in town and those that i am not related to, i have a 2 degrees of separation unlike the usual 6 and i actually gave birth to kevin bacon. ew. when i was a teen i could not wait to get out of what i considered a god-forsaken town! i moved to atlanta because it was the nearest bustling city and tried my hand at a bit of privacy not available here in this town-o-mi familia. for two years i fought wretched traffic, an independence not unlike loneliness and a sad longing for safety and security of home. my favorite parts of tallahassee are its oak trees, like grand parents waiting for me to come sit and hear their stories. the parks, the closeness to water which i am drawn to on a cellular level, the little artist communities, the smallness that feels comforting mixed with the growth that i get to watch with excitement. i imagine i will be here for a long time! or at least until my kids move out and go to college...then i am out of here! asheville here i come! 1 Comments |
