bilingual? 11:59 PM

i have had many many lessons in spanish: 3 years in highschool (granted one of those years was a retake, but still), spanish I and II in college (made perfect A's, might i add), married into a spanish speaking family and was there for 8 years and have listened to numerous do it yourself, learn the language disks, podcasts and computer software programs. ALL to no avail.

i cannot speak a bit of spanish! my time here in colombia has confirmed this for me thoroughly!

i think my problem is stage fright; the pressure of having to respond to someone on the spot as they look at me expectantly.
even "como estas?" sends me into a tail spin! I mean FOR REAL!! come on! everybody knows what that means! i just smile and nod. "buenos noches"? same thing; i just smile and nod! sometimes someone will get all over confident that this gringa can understand them and run off all manner of spanish talk and i just smile and nod.

i am coming back here again in march. that gives me 7 months to prepare and anyone who wants to tutor me, bring it on...but i'm telling you, i'm a challenge! (or challenged, not sure which!)
