west coast swing 10:52 PM

i have wanted to take a ball room dance class for years and arden and i tried it once. during the standard partner switch, some man would end up with one of us as a female lead and it just felt awkward...AND, these people had been doing it for years! years and years! lots of years! these folks had many skills and well, we just...hm? i'll tell you....we just sucked!

now we have a dance studio here in town offering a gay and lesbian dance class. there's no mandatory partner swapping and everyone sucks so it seems ideal! ideal except my girlfriend is non-existent on every single wednesday nite that the class is offered. so i'm doing what all good mom's would do...i'm making my daughter raven be my partner.

raven looked at me with her doubtful expression and pleading eyes that said "oh dear god please????? do not make me do this!" after much coercive pleading and manipulation, she finally agreed and actually seemed a bit excited.

tonight was the night! the night we were to start our class! at around 2pm raven texted me and asked if she could go to church with her friend instead of going to the class and i was soooo sad! what was i to say? "no raven! you cannot go to church with your friend and her family! you HAVE to go to the gay and lesbian ballroom dancing class with me!" so after making her feel adequately guilty, i set out to find myself a date.

wow! finding a date....that's not something i've really ever had to do. it sucks. it especially sucks when you're trying to get someone to be your date to a BALLROOM DANCING CLASS!!!! nooooo one wants to do that. it doesn't matter how cute you are or how sweetly you ask! after repeated rejection, i suckered my friend karen into it by telling her i would pay and providing her with a babysitter.

we went! we broke it down! we cut up a rug! we danced and danced! wait no, we did something that kind of, sorta resembled a marching band, seizure version of the west coast swing. it was hysterical! we laughed, hung our heads in shame, jumped up and down repeatedly when we got like 4 steps in a row correctly, focused reeeeeeaaal hard and hurt our brains with concentration!

it was a fine time.
