party small talk

our neighborhood has a monthly party. i go. i don't really know or have much of anything in common with most of the people but it's fun. we bring wine and beer and food and stand together with moments of silence trying to think of the next conversation. arden is highly skilled at sparking chit chat and i accuse her of losing her social filters. her last choice opening was to ask all the women at the party if they had ever kissed a woman. most of the time they said no. occasionally we got questioned whether a peck on the cheek counted and once or twice we got a surprising yes. one even said "oh yes, a very passionate one!" one of our favorite party attendees felt so chagrined at having never done it she decided to confess something else. she began with telling us how she cannot keep her hands out of her pants. WOW! we were like "um, (name change here) sally, are you sure you want to share anymore?" she continued.... she seemed to move onto an entirely different subject when she started to tell us how much she love love loves jalapeño peppers and we really worried about how she was going to bring this full circle. the story is that she was cooking using jalapeño, got distracted by her obsession by putting her hands down her pants. now i'm sure you can all guess what happened next. there was all kinds of crying and baths and ice cubes and salves. at the time this happened to poor sally, i'm certain it was no laughing matter but this night; the confession made us laugh our asses off. there was much guffawing and knee slapping! these parties just keep getting better. so now i'm unsure what the real lesson in this story is; maybe there are 3...is that allowed? 1. everyone has a story to tell. 2. cooking with peppers and masturbation, do not mix! 3. drinking lots of alcohol and making huge confessions, bad idea! p.s. did you know that may is national masturbation month? how apropos.
