looking UP 4:04 PM

i am in atlanta today. i drove up last night and just so you know i SUCK at long distance driving. granted, it's only about 5 hours but in truth, i get sleepy driving from one side of town to the other. i do all sorts of things to keep myself awake; books on cd, loud obnoxious rap music, windows down and a/c on and well....other things that i will not mention here for fear of embarrassment ;)

i got in about 9:30 and that would have been sooner except i answered the phone at the end when i was supposed to be doing lots of exits, merges and turns and i became directionally challenged (i believe that's the p c term for it).

anyway, i got to see my long distant girlfriend and she sleeps in a little hole in the attic of her office which is the cutest little thing i eva saw! when i say tiny, i mean reeeeeaallly tiny! you cannot stand in there. you have to crawl around. she had to angle the bed so that the slopey ceiling doesn't press her toes down like climbing in a hotel bed made too tightly. the little key hole you crawl through to get in is only about 2 feet high. makes me feel like alice in wonderland. we slept there. a/c humming us to sleep. it was sweet.

today i woke and went to the high museum to see an annie leibovitz exhibit:

i very muchly enjoyed this although her work is amazing and it makes me wonder what the fuck i'm doing! like, hey you! get off your ass and do something worthwhile. i cried and cried. i cried at the sad ones, sure....like the ones of susan sontang as she struggled with cancer and dies, the ones of her father dying and the the blood stain on the ground next to a child bicycle in Sarajevo but i also cried at the portraits, the portraits of famous folk and women and her own family. they are all so intimate.

when i got back to the office/cubby-hole-in-the attic and while arden slaved away at her job, her boss and i went into the woods for a run. i am NOT a runner. i hate it and i am crummy at it. this run, i had high hopes for because i wanted to learn a few tips from lisa who runs often and she promised we'd get to see a waterfall! i warned her that she would have to leave me behind often because walking would probably happen alot.

i ran and i ran and i am fitter than i thought and i am so proud of myself. it was hard but rewarding and the waterfall was beautiful. it was overcast and slightly cool so i did not suffer terribly and it rained! it rained that light rain that really just falls on you as it rolls tenderly from the leaves of the trees all around you. i wish there was a place in tallahassee as lovely as this place. i believe i could muster the energy for such an activity with that serene beauty as my setting.
