lady or the tiger 5:50 PM

many of you know that arden and i lived together for years before deciding that maintaining separate households would solve a few of the relationship woes that had worked their way into our "domestic bliss". i always did say "domesticity kills!" and we wanted to avoid death at all costs.

my girls and i moved to a darling cutie little house we now call home. not far. actually 1.2 miles away in the same blissful neighborhood that i never want to leave, by the way. i want to grow old, die here and be buried at optimist park or better yet, cremated and scattered in the ravine, aka the ditch that runs through the center of our own private idaho. (there i go again thinking the nene's revolve around me and mine alone!)

so after about a year of living apart we have come to a few sad sad realizations:
1. making careful scheduled plans to see each other most certainly destroys all hope of spontaneous hay rolling.
2. supporting two households is expensive as hell! actually, it's as expensive as f-ing hell!
3. multiple trips between our two homes to retrieve forgotten items in a weekend together gets crazy frustrating even if it is only a mile away.
4. arden can stomach puke cleaning, and man do i miss her help on those sick kid days.
5. arden is supreme bug killer and i can scream to shatter glass; what a pair!
and most of all....
6. we miss each other alot like silly girls and get a little lonely.

i have this funny little habit of turning thoughts and emotions off at will and after a rather successful jaunt of denial and grief turned crazed and mad, arden finally saw clearly and caught onto that ever so clever pattern of mine. she, being even nuttier and more irrational than i, suggested the girls and i shuttle all of our shit over and move right back into her sweet sweet house.

here is where a pro/con list can come in handy! and dont you think for a second that i haven't made about 4,372 of them on various scraps of whatever i can find to write on at whatever moment inspiration strikes......napkins, palm of hand, kleenex boxes and you know you can write on your counter-top with pencil(comes right off with windex). you can pro/con yourself to death i think. what if i make the wrong decision? what if we move and lose our little cottage and it doesnt work like we hope? what if we stay and we grow just too far apart? i'll assume that all of you have heard of the famous old story by frank stockton, "the lady or the tiger" . what if i choose door number one and all hell breaks loose. this is my fear.
