ersatz

raven wants pro-fake fingernails. this has always been a strange obsession of hers. about once a year since she was 7 or so, she has tested the waters and ventured into the life of a woman with talons by purchasing the press on kind; the kind that adhere with either sticky pads or super glue. neither of which usually last longer than 12 hours but leave a crusty, peely residue on her own poor (in her opinion) inadequate finger nails. her new idea is to try the semi-permanent professional acrylic nails that cost a fortune and require regular maintenance. no amount of discouraging words from me has thus far been able to topple her wall of determination. her own nails could really be quite nice...if you're into that sort of thing. they are often maintained, much like her dental hygiene, with scant attention to detail. her nails are usually broken down, bitten and battered but if they were cleaned up, filed and painted, really could look just like the fake ones she so desires. interesting concept, this striving for the fake look... how about: -if i style my hair just so, it will look exactly like a wig. -if i keep my teeth polished and bleached i can make them appear as though they are really dentures. -when i tan my skin in the sun, i aim for a nice orange tint like it came straight from a bottle. a million more come to mind but i'll leave it at that.
