the date
4:26 PM
chelsea and her boyfriend (uh huh, i said boyfriend) are going to a concert tonight. the decemberists; a mix of 80's "new age" with celtic under-tones. she is going with him and him alone. my question is this...is this a real-live date? the online dictionary defines date as: an engagement to go out socially with another person, often out of romantic interest or one's companion on such an outing. so i think that qualifies this as a clear cut example of romantic dating. my first instinct is to say.... "no way José! you are too young to date! my momma said no dating til i was 16 and if my momma made that rule for me then it will damn well apply to you too AND we might even wait til your 18 for good measure!" (all said while hands on hips, nodding repeatedly and aggressively) and then on second thought, aren't i trying to break patterns? am i not trying to be a different kind of mother? don't i trust chelsea because she has done nothing but prove to me she is mature and makes good decisions? right! so chelsea is going and i am excited for her. and well, my behavior as her mother looks a little more like this....(all said with hands on hips while peering down my nose and rocking my head from side to side) "you ARE aware that i have eyes everywhere and am related to just about everybody in this little town so keep that in mind if you decide to sneak off to some dark little corner...OK? have fun!"
