a christmas story
6:33 PM
once upon a time on the 12th day before christmas, two little girls clamored loudly to their mother how cruel and abusive it was not to participate in the barbaric ritual of cutting down a living tree, dragging it's lifeless corpse into the home, wrapping it thoroughly with electric current and waiting patiently for it to dry out and become a serious fire hazard. and after much pleading and huffiness, the mother gave in. on this night the whole family went out into the rainy evening in search of the perfect tree. finding that the local grocery establishment had a tree of an appropriate size and shape for the little girl's taste, it was shoved mercilessly in to the rear of the car for the windy ride home. on this ride through weekday ritualistic exodous' from cubical lands near and far sliding on oil slicked roads and struggling to see through windshields with sub-standard wipers, a strange feeling began to fill the mother's chest. at first it was frightening yet faintly familiar. this feeling came from the rustic tangy scent of pine filling the car. it came from the looks on the little girls faces and the excited chatter spilling from their lips. it came from lights lining the houses down the family's street. let us name this feeling that drove the mother home with her sweet children and with joy dragged the lifeless tree across the threshhold. this feeling that we will call christmas spirit, brought the tree back to life with lights blazing and colorful balls shining. christmas spirit. is there really such a thing? ![]() probably not. 1 Comments |
