saving lives
10:16 AM
chelsea told me of a day she was waiting for the bus when she saw a leaf fall from a tree into the middle of the street. she watched cars pass and toss the leaf to and fro. she followed it with her eyes as she fretted and worried that the leaf would be run over. at the moment traffic cleared, she ran into the street to claim the leaf and tied it up so that it would not be blown into the street again.we laughed together about this story and the absurdity of saving the life of a leaf. she used it as a clear illustration of why she should not be forced to wait at the busstop for too long and i pondered other reasons why she would be concerned over such things. is it her tender heart? was it boredom? is it another sign of her mild inclination toward obsessive compulsivness. we talked about that too. we giggled and decided that her oc behavior is entirely hinged on how much effort it truly takes on her part. she will be suddenly consumed with smoothing the wrinkle in a curtain, straightening a tilted frame hanging on the wall or lining up things on a shelf in symmetry. but mostly this plagues her, if she can get someone else to repair the flaw. i think the only thing that may save her from a full blown case of obsessive compulsive disorder will be her utter laziness. 0 Comments |
