spring or fall? 5:05 PM

the air outside reminds me of skipping class, camping in the quietest spots, napping in dark rooms cooled by window breezes, fishing with my grandmother and the sound of traffic far away. it smells just like, laying in the hammock watching squirrels play, sex in public places and being alone at the lake. it feels like my youth, the good and the bad. the fear of getting caught by your parents for doing something wrong, finding a note on your car from an admirer, sliding magnets in the sand to pick up minerals or playing rummy on the back porch. hide and seek and having to pee BAD, riding with the windows down, radio loud and no seatbelt, sneaking friends over while the parents are at work and kissing for way too long for my mommas comfort! boredom, i remember what boredom was like on days like this. fried chicken and swatting flies, stumbling through ant beds and gym class. most often i think no way but on a day like today, i could stand my youth once more.
